Aliʻiōlani Hale, Supreme Court Courtroom
Saturday, September 13, 2025
10:30 AM to 12:30 PM (HST)

On Saturday, September 13, community members gathered in Hawaiʻi’s Supreme Court to watch five short documentary films produced by student filmmakers for Hawaiʻi History Day—a state-wide civic education program organized by Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities. Topics covered Hawaiian language and fishing practices, Kahoʻolawe, Kuleana Lands, and Kamehameha’s Ke Kānāwai Māmalahoe (Law of the Splintered Paddle). Meleanna Meyer, Hawaiian filmmaker, artist, and educator, moderated a discussion with the student filmmakers as they shared their research and reflected on the civic power of filmmaking.
